While the hot new trends tend to get all the attention in the world of fashion, we’ve noticed that it’s usually the basics that keep us looking our very best. Adventerous colors and prints and innovative silhouettes keep us interested season after season, but comfy tees and figure flattering dresses and jeans can be found at the roots of any great wardrobe. Style icons from the past to the present show us time and time again that there is no expiration date on great style. In honor of that concept, we were inspired to compile a list of our favorite basics.

Velvet Baby Jersey Jaida Long Dress in Inkdrop (dark navy). The maxi dress trend continues and we love this Velvet one for it’s sexy low back and cool twisted straps.
J Brand Heartbreaker Bootcut Jean in Ink. If you like the J Brand Lovestory Jean, you’ll love the Heartbreaker, her slimmer bootcut cousin! This new style is selling out everywhere and we like it best in Ink, J Brand’s original wash.
Ella Moss Elsa Cami in Orchid (also available in White). This super soft cami will take you anywhere from beach to beach bar this Spring and Summer.
Seven For All Mankind Bootcut in Vintage Anguilla. We haven’t seen a rigid (non-stretch) style from Seven in a long time and this one is right on trend with vintage styling and distressing to give your jeans that “well-loved” look.
Gorjana Lucky Charm Starfish Necklace in Silver (also available in Gold). We love the delicate chain and the dainty starfish charm puts us in the mood for Summer!

I am the self declared Queen of All Things Cozy. It is as if my closet doors are a magical gateway to a fantasy land of jackets, hoodies, coats, and cardigans. I can’t get enough and in my opinion, an outfit isn’t complete until there is something over it. You can sort of view it as the frosting on the cake. Needless to say, my favorite trend of the past several months has been the Wrap. They’re a free flowing version of a cardigan and come in all colors, fabrications, and sizes, therefore making them the perfect little thing to throw on year around. Everyone from Splendid to Velvet offer variations of this comfy, functional trend, so you’re guaranteed to find one (or two…or five) that’s just right for you.
There’s a reason why the people of planet Earth set resolutions for the beginning of the year… a fresh page on the calendar is great inspiration to break bad habits, get out of a rut, and start clean. A quick poll around the offices of Shop LA Style show that fashion is no exception. Everyone has some wardrobe worthy goals and guidelines for the New Year, so we’ve compiled a short list of a few of our favorites, which we’ll share over the next few days.
2000 Fashion Resolutions I: Great Fitting Jeans
2009 Fashion Resolutions II: Amp it Up with Accessories
2009 Fashion Resolutions III: Wear the Clothes, Don’t Let the Clothes Wear You
While I love trendy silhouettes and funky prints just as much as the next fashionista, there’s a lot to be said about the subtle cool of pared down styling. This year, I vow to rediscover the beauty in simple, functional pieces. To help keep me cute and classic, I look to C&C California for tees, Ella Moss and Velvet for casual dresses, and Vince for work wear. J Brand and Three Dots have also done a great job of reminding us that basic is best.
Check back Monday for our last 2009 Fashion Resolution!
